MOPANI – The police in the Mopani Area are investigating a case of culpable homicide, following the death of three people in a horrific accident that took place at Roodhuis along the Shigalo-to-Malamulele road last on Monday morning at about 07:15.

According to a spokesperson of the police in the area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, the deceased, Mzamani Milton Mabedle (36), was on the way to work when the accident occurred. He was driving in a Fiat Uno. Along the way, his car collided head-on with an Isuzu Bakkie, going in the opposite direction. Mr Mabedle, a teacher at one of the Malamulele-based schools, died at the scene. A 20-year-old woman, Basani Maluleke of Shikundu settlement, who was a passenger in the car, also died at the scene.

A resident of Musina, Mr Samuel Mathoma (45), who was a passenger in the bakkie, also died instantly. Another vehicle, a Nissan 1400 bakkie, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Realizing that there was an accident in front of him, the driver of the small bakkie, Mr Samuel Makhomu (33) of Rabali village in the Nzhelele area swerved the vehicle, trying to avoid further collision.

Unfortunately, he lost control over the bakkie and it overturned. The driver, Mr Makhomu, was seriously injured. The driver of the Isuszu bakkie, Mr Japie Toareck (58), also sustained serious injuries during the incident. According to the police statement, two passengers for the Isuszu bakkie and one from the small Nissan sustained minor injuries while a 6-month-old baby escaped unhurt.
