Great local support for Samango monkey research

On 24 February, I placed a second article in the Limpopo Mirror, asking the public to report Samango sightings and with that, supporting my current research aimed at the conservation and management of the Samangos in the Soutpansberg area.

I have received and still am receiving phone calls, e-mails and SMSes from individuals all over the Soutpansberg. The information I have gathered through this is of great value and has led to the discovery of some very fascinating and so-far-unknown facts about these charismatic animals.

I would like to thank everyone for their interest and support in my project, and I am very pleased to hear that people generally seem to have a positive attitude towards the presence of Samango monkeys. I would like to encourage residents again to contact me about Samango sightings and to continue spreading the word about my research.

To report Samango sightings and for further information, please e-mail me at: [email protected] or if you do not have e-mail, call or SMS me on 071 105 8117. Together with the Hogsback Samango monkey project, we also have a facebook group “Samango Monkey Project,” and anyone is welcome to join. -  Bibi Linden, University of Venda, Thohoyandou.
