If the promises of Lisbeth Sivhaga bear fruit, Limpopo will produce a female boxing champion before Christmas.

On December 17, Sivhaga (23), will be fighting against an opponent soon to be announced. The event will take place at the Meropa Entertainment World and Casino, Polokwane.

The undefeated Sivhaga, who has won all four her professional bouts by knockouts, says she will make the people of Limpopo and South Africa proud by winning the vacant South African fly-weight title. "It has always been my dream to be crowned a boxing champion. I worked very hard before my previous fights just to make sure that I beat all my oppornents, and I succeeded."

According to her, she treat all her fights like championship fights. "As this one is a real championship fight, there is no way I can lose as this is an opportunity that I have been waiitng for too long," said Sivhanga from her temporary home at Buffalo Lodge in Polokwane. She is staying there since she joined Limpopo Boxing Promotion, her promoter since she turned professional last April.

Sivhaga is full of praises for her promoter, Josius Maphepha, and trainer, Phathutshedzo Dongola, for helping her to be where she is today. "Maphepha did a wonderful job by making sure that I get four fights this year. This is a great job, considering the fact that other boxers like the reigning international junior-featherweight champion, Unathi Myekeni, has not fought since the beginning of the year," said Sivhaga.

Sivhaga is one of the 21 professional women boxers in the country. They include two world champions, Myekeni and Noni Tenge and South African champions Julie Shabalala and Ester Mashiya.

Sivhaga´s stable-mate, Vhonani Netshidamboni, will also be challenging a yet-to-be-announced opponent for the vacant South African title in the middle-weight division on the same day. Netshidambuwoni also has a record of six fights, all of which he won by a way of knockouts.

Netshidamboni´s trainer, John Nemakonde of the Sibasa Boxing Club in Sibasa, said: "We produced good boxers like Muvhuso Nedzanani, Terminator Manyelenylele, Pfariso Neluvhalani and others, but with Netshidamboni, boxing will be revived. This is the new Mike Tyson," said Nemakonde.
