Adv Ailwei Mushavhanamadi laid to rest

The former top-cop-turned-legal-counsel and later risk and security head at Univen, Adv Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, who was laid to rest at the weekend, was described as a brilliant, loyal, outstanding and dedicated employee of the university.

Mushavhanamadi passed away a fortnight ago, while attending a work-related course in Gauteng. He was buried at Ngovhela.

Friends, relatives, colleagues and many community members came in numbers to bid him a final farewell. His funeral followed a memorial service at Univen on Thursday.

During the funeral service, conducted by Dr Maxwell Masakona in the Calvary Christian Church in Lwamondo, speakers spoke fondly of the good the late former cop and head of seciurity had done for his family and his community. The rector of Univen, Prof Peter Mbati, said Mushavhanamadi was an outstanding employee who handled every task with ease. "He went the extra mile to ensure that the university was safe and secure. Under his leadership, the security department experienced rejuvenation and enhanced professionalism," Mbati added.

Mushavhanamadi's daughter, Thendo, moved mourners when she recounted how her father loved them as a family. “My father loved us and wanted all of us to get educated, and he always encouraged us to study. I still remember him telling me to forget about working and to further my studies, saying that as long as he was still alive, he would make sure that I achieved the highest academic qualification. His death has left a big void in our hearts, and we will dearly miss him,” she said.

Mushavhanamadi joined the SAPS in 1984. He worked in different sections at the SAPS, but continued studying until he was admitted as advocate in 2007. He received numerous awards, both at work and in the community, and completed his master of law degree in 2009.

In 2010, he was appointed as head of risk and security at the University of Venda, where he worked until his death.

He is survived by his wife Betty, mother Sarah, three children Tshifhiwa, Thendo and Tshilidzi, and two brothers, Seth and Ndweleni.
