Man found dead in Mapungubwe Park

An elephant may have been responsible for the death of an unknown Zimbabwean man in the Mapungubwe National Park the past weekend.

The body of the man, in his early forties, was discovered in the park on Saturday (23rd). According to SANParks spokesperson Divhani Maremba, park rangers discovered the body while on patrol in the western side of the park. “A Zimbabwean passport and a cellphone were discovered in his possession,” said Maremba.

The man has been identified as the 46-year-old Nhlanganisani Ncube from Gwanda in Zimbabwe.

Since the discovery, a police investigation was launched to determine the identity of the man. Maremba confirmed that the deceased man might not have been alone at the time of his death, because the rangers also found numerous other human footprints in the immediate vicinity of his body.
