Seven die in horror crash

MOPANI - The police in the Mopani Area are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of seven people in a car accident. The horrific accident took place along the Phalaborwa-Gravellote road last Saturday afternoon at about 17:30.

According to the spokesperson for the police in the area, Capt Maano Sadiki, the two vehicles, a Nissan 1400 bakkie and a Mazda 626 sedan were going in the same direction when the accident occurred. In the statement, that was released on Monday, the police were still puzzled as to how a horrific accident of that nature could occur with vehicles that were going in the same direction.

The occupants of the bakkie, Mr Willkens Henry (42) of Witbank and Mr Ben Kruger (40) of Phalaborwa died at the scene. The occupants of the sedan, Mr Sipho Mabena (21) from Soshanguve in Pretoria, Robert Rikhotso (39) from Majeje village in Phalaborwa, Patrick Mahlangu (25) from Soshanguve, Zerian Mbewe (29) from Majeje village and Birds Mandla (29), also from Soshanguve, were seriously injured. They were taken to the nearby Maputha Malatjie Hospital where they all died shortly after admission.

In the statement the police indicated that it was difficult for them to investigate the case, as all the occupants of the two vehicles died.

They appealed to anyone with information relating to the case to contact them at Tel: 015-7691530 or 0860 010 111.
