So what is The Science of life?

It is a series of 16 eight-page educational life skills booklets that are aimed at foundation level children. Each booklet carries a theme, e.g. time, electricity, pets etc., and a general format is found in each booklet. On average three to four pages carry localised content. These include a page on achievers, or a focus on schools from our region, or a parent talk section.

The Zoutnet group printed and distributed 14000 copies of the booklets for each of the 16 weeks. Over and above our usual sales, during this time we were also able to reach 28 primary schools in the rural areas of our municipal boundaries on a direct basis, whereby various sponsors “adopted a school” and we were able to supply 50 copies of our newspaper to each of these schools for the 16-week period.

Zoutnet also arranged for the designer of the booklets to hold ongoing training seminars for the foundation phase teachers of these selected schools, to help them become more dynamic and innovative in their approach to teaching life skills. Not only are the booklets a cost effective teaching aid, but the complete newspaper can be utilised in the classroom, for activities like grammar skills (letters and words), reading and comprehension, creativity and artwork (cutting and sticking), upliftment and awareness (community news.) Cost effective, quality value–added products in the newspaper, definitely grow the readership base, as well as, relieving the burden of poor availability of educational resources.
