Hot and setting the stage ablaze - Robert Mudau has come up with a hot new single.

New kid on the block Robert Mudau is hot

The love of music came early in Takalani Robert Mudau's life, but he told himself that he would have to finish his education first before venturing into music.

Mudau (46) of Mapate outside Thohoyandou first focused on his education and did his matric at Katlehong High School in Gauteng before completing a marketing management course through Wits Tech.

The man who is currently an operations manager for personal protective clothing at Lonmin Mine in Rustenburg is living his dream of becoming a well-known musician. Out of nowhere and when people least expected him in the local music arena, he is setting the music scene ablaze with the release of his new single.

This new kid on the block, who has been hailed as the most innovative artist to have emerged from this part of the country, has come out with a sizzling maskandi single, Masindi.

"I know that music is a short-term career and that one should have something to fall back on when the music career is over. It is now very difficult to make a living out of music, because of piracy, but with education one is guaranteed of a brighter future and this is what I did before I ventured into music," he said.

Mudau said he started his career by working with a maskandi group on the East Rand of Gauteng, where a dream to produce a different type of Tshivenda music came about. He further indicated that he mixed Zulu type of guitar riffs with lyrics in Tshivenda and IsiZulu.

"I went out shopping for the best instrumentalists and we put together a band. Surprisingly, most of the songs were composed on the spot while we were practising, and this left my engineer DJ Davic highly impressed. I worked with some of the best maskandi artists. The music will do the talking and will be well received by my fans. The fact that I play live is a bonus for my fans," said Mudau.

He said it took him 18 months to complete the single, which he composed and produced himself. A full 10-track album will be released at the end of September 2018. It was recorded at Masana Studios by master engineer DJ Davic.
