Debut poetry collection for Ndivhudzannyi

A Vhurivhuri Nwiini-based poet, Ndivhudzannyi Madzhie, has just proved that writing and reading in Tshivenda are a necessity with the publication of her debut poetry collection, Ndi vhudza nnyi?

A BSc nursing student at the University of the Free State, Ndivhudzannyi discovered her writing talent in 2013 when she was in Grade 8. She indicated that a family friend had said that it was easy to write if one was an avid reader.

“I then started to write poems and found out my dad was also a writer of poems, novels, short stories and songs, but his books were never published as some were allegedly stolen by publishers,” she said.

She mentioned that her father was her inspiration because he had read most of her poems and given her pointers to refine them.

“The collection is all about birth, hope, love, nature, and the challenges the youth face, everyday struggles and strategies on how to survive,” she said.

Her favourite poet is Nomonde Sky. “She's intelligent and everything about her defines art,” she said. “Everyone can relate to her writing; the emotions and feelings are felt through her words.”

She has launched a YouTube channel known as Madzhie Ndivhudzannyi, where she shares her poems in different languages. “People can also follow me on Facebook (Kebotsamang Madzhie) and my Facebook page Mukololo wa ha Lambani,” she said. “My book can be ordered at R120 directly from me.” Her cell phone number is 079 852 2031.

She has set the launch date for 1 February, and the venue and time will be communicated in due course.
