Mukololo Muimbi thrives despite hard times

“We are only in May, but I am confident to say that, as an artist, despite the consequences of Covid-19, such as the lockdown measures and the curtailing of business, I have worked hard to such an extent that I feel proud because my dreams and visions have become a reality.”

Mutshidziwa Makuya, known as Mukololo Muimbi after the release of her all-time hit Mufhanzi, said that she was confident that the future looked brighter for her as an artist, because no hard times would ever limit her talent.

“So far, I have realised that my achievements are beyond the previous year's half-year plans,” she said. “Every year before the end of the first half, I aim to hold three single tracks in my hands, and here is 2020, and it seems a different year when it comes to my talent.”

She said that she had reached a different corner of the musical world, even though the world is currently facing the challenges of Covid-19. “My talent is not affected; my music can still reach and touch many souls out there,” she said. “What I have seen is that the growth of popularity I have gained from people has grown too big. My 2020 songs have caught the attention of many people who are now my fans in countries such as Zimbabwe and Botswana, people from different tribes and languages whom I was not familiar with.”

Her current hit singles are Basela, Reason dza million, and Ndiko toda u tamba nae. “I'm happily sending out my voice of appreciation to my fans and all people who are supporting my talent,” she said.

This artist’s name, Mukololo, means “princess” or nobility (from the royal family). Perhaps her stage name has to do with the fact that she is a Makuya and she comes from Ha-Makuya.

“I am a house and manyalo artist, and I am continuing to find life's meaning in and via music,” she said. “I had discovered my singing talent during a life orientation period after my teacher had requested me to sing as part of the lessons. I found out that I was a good singer.”

She found music to connect her to the Higher Power where she experienced life as a gift that needed to be treasured and celebrated. “Life is sacred, and many people are not aware of that fact; that's why we all must love life,” she said. “Music means a lot to me, and without music I don't see myself leading a good life.”

Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty.
