Africa must rise up through love and unity

“Peace, love and unity should be the platform from which Africa rises up; we want to see the continent united as one.” This is Tshivenda reggae artist Elekanyani Tshabuse’s message to the nation.

Forty-year-old Tshabuse, nicknamed “The Zion Soldier”, was born and raised in Ngudza village outside Thohoyandou. He has just released his new CD, called Africa Rise Up, which was recorded live at Marshall Resort in Malavuwe village at the beginning of the year.

Africa Rise Up is his fifth album. His album Nwana wa Venda was released in 2011 and Marching to Zion in 2012.  His fourth album, Makhadzi won him Best Tshivenda Reggae Album of the Year at the Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) in 2018.

Africa Rise Up has 10 unique tracks, including Lord I thank you, Stop lying and Hoyo o malwa. “With the title track, Africa Rise Up, I inform listeners of my wish to see the continent grow economically, and for peace and unity to reign. I’m a peace-loving soul,” said Tshabuse.

On the track Hoyo o malwa (That woman is married), he warns the ex-lover of a now-married woman to stop pursuing her for love as it will only interfere with her marriage.

Tshabuse said he is proud to be the second Tshivenda reggae artist in the Vhembe region to have recorded an album live from the stage. Colbert Mukwevho was the first to have released a live album on CD and DVD, which was recorded at a concert in Johannesburg.

“I thank God for the opportunity that was afforded me to be able to do this, as it is expensive. But also, thanks to the help of the managing director of Marshal Resort, Mashau, everything needed for the live recording was possible. I’m a solo artist, but some of my songs feature artists like Khakhathi and Friends, Shufflers Ragimana and Kenny Murabi,” he added.

For bookings and live performances, Tshabuse can be contacted on 067 747 9679 or 073 834 4057.
