Meet Melo, the man behind 'Anytime'

Tumelo Kgatla, known as “Meloproducedit” or just “Melo” in the Vhembe and Mopani districts, is a respected producer who has also made a name for himself as hip-hop singer.

Melo started producing his own and other artists’ music in 2017, but only gained recognition with the release of his first full-length project, Preserve the Clones, in 2018.

He moved to Gauteng earlier this year to pursue his dreams of becoming a prominent producer, where he met top South African hip-hop star Blxckie. The two of them came up with a song, titled ASAP, which has been received well and enjoys airplay on a number of local radio stations in the country.

“I saw my world open right before my eyes, and I was happy about everything in it,” he said. “In June, my single Anytime, featuring two great artists called Emtee and Saudi, was released. It is still fresh, but it’s a banger of a track.”

Anytime is currently trending on social media platforms and featured in many South African hip-hop blogs. “Considering the song’s popularity, a high-quality music video for Anytime should be released by the end of July,” he said. “People can expect a treat with this one.”

Along his musical journey, Melo has worked with other successful artists such as JAYHood, Kidd969, Blaklez, Logic World, Emtee, Spirit Boyz, Blxckie, Batondy, Saudi, and 25K. He is currently signed to Vhembe-based record label The Plvg Musiq, headed by Hello Hours.

Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.
