Ronewa gives gospel musicians a platform to promote talents

Gospel singer Ronewa Mukheli of Lwamondo outside Louis Trichardt has travelled a hard road to get where he is today. The 30-year-old gospel musician, better known as ‘Muloshi’, has three successful albums under his belt today, but this, he says, did not come overnight. He went through some real struggles before his music was even heard, so he knows about the challenges aspiring musicians are faced with. His own hardships to make it in the music industry convinced him to help others, so they do not have to go through the same ordeals.

Mukheli, who is a director at Lwamondo Online Radio, is in the process of putting together a big concert, called the Gospel Promotion Artist Show, with the aim to create a platform for untapped talent to showcase their skills, and to promote Lwamondo Online Radio, which serves as a mouthpiece for the community of Lwamondo.

The free show will be taking place at the Beginning of Faith and Deliverance Centre in Khwekhwe, outside Louis Trichardt, on 4 June. The list of performers for the day includes Phathutshedzo Ndou, Takalelani Thiba, Rofhiwa Surprise Phaswana and Gudani Avhakundwi.

About the show, Mukheli said: “I have seen how artists suffer until they get a break into the music industry. It is very tough, especially when one is from the villages, where resources are minimal and sometimes non-existent. I am not lying when I say I have first-hand experience of it. I also went through this myself. I struggled a lot before I got a break, and I do not want others to experience what I went through. I am now offering these little-known artists a platform to shine and showcase their talents. We have invited producers, promoters and other role players in the music industry and, who knows, some of the participants might get contracts and gig bookings on the spot.”

Another reason for this gospel promotion is that Mukheli will be forming a mass gospel choir soon. “I have the material ready, and it will only be a matter of time before we record a CD and embark on a national tour,” he said.

Gospel singer Rofhiwa Surprise Phaswana said she had grabbed the opportunity with both hands when she was approached. “This is the ideal place to market oneself. We do not usually get such opportunities, and this might be the start of a journey to a brighter future in the field of music,” she said.
