SILOAM – The police in the far north area have raised serious concern about recent attacks on their members.
The police spokesperson in the Far North area, Capt Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, said they were appealing to the community to help them arrest suspects who are responsible for three incidents directed to three police inspectors in different areas last week.
On Monday night this week, a police inspector attached to the Siloam police station, was attacked by two suspects, while walking from a drinking place to his home at Fondwe at about 21:00.
The suspects then robbed the officer, who was not in uniform, his service pistol, a Z88 with fifteen rounds of ammunition.
Last Sunday at Ha-Ramokgopa, Ha-Nesengani in Vuwani, a police inspector's home was broken into and his uniform and a service pistol were s stolen.
In an incident at the Louis Trichardt Barracks last Friday, a service pistol, uniform and a bulletproof vest were stolen when unknown culprits broke into the room of a police inspector.
No one was arrested in all these incidents.
Mushavhanamadi said they are appealing to all community members to be alert of any person who might approach them posing as a police officer in uniform. "I want our community members to make sure that they demand an appointment card from any police officer who might approach them, to avoid being a prey of such criminals."
He urged anyone who might have information about the incidents to come forward, "so that they can help us make arrests before these criminals can cause havoc in our community."
