´Include marriage as a school subject´

The government must introduce marriage subjects into the school syllabus, says Dr Azwidowi Masakona, a well-known marriage counsellor and pastor of the Calvary Christian Centre at Lwamondo.

Masakona, who has written several books about marriage, said he was concerned that pupils were taught about "lizards and crocodiles instead of teaching them about important things like marriage."

He addressed a church meeting at Polokwane on Sunday and said he was campaigning to push government to introduce marriage subjects in Grade 11 and 12.

"If our children are taught about marriage at school, they will be better prepared when starting families, which will help their union to last forever. In our country, we have a high number of divorces because many of us get in here without any preparation. To avoid this, I think we must introduce marriage subjects, and our children will be better prepared," said Masakona.

Masakona has written and published books such as Simple things that build a healthy marriage, Turning your breakdown into breakthrough, Standing on the brighter side of every problem, Face to face with fears of mankind,Pressing on when all reasons are there to give up, and others.

Masakona has also travelled around South Africa, Africa and Europe, giving lectures about marriage.
