Holiday programme for Makhado youths

The Charismatic Rhythms in Tshikota outside Louis Trichardt will host long-holiday activities for the youths in Tshikota and around the Makhado area as a way of empowering and encouraging them to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

The youth organisation's director and programmes manager, Ms Kagiso Kekana, said that the programme, which takes place from 19 to 23 March, will be held through a series of fun interactive and jam-packed multi-disciplinary edutainment activities relating to arts, culture and recreation.

“This includes teaching and developing important life skills such as leadership, career and personal development,” she said. “All these also encourage a sense of social cohesion and emotional intelligence among the youths and are aimed at strengthening resilience among the youths and working towards maximising moral regeneration.”

The holiday programme aims to keep the children active and busy with positive activities, so that they refrain from engaging in anti-social activities relating to crime and substance abuse. “We have been providing the youths with lifelong pro-social activities,” she said. “The specific objective of this programme is to give our youth the opportunity to express themselves in a creative way, to find ways to express their feelings by utilising the power of art such as drama, poetry, dance and other acts. They need to see art as therapy.”

Participants are required to register for a minimal fee of R30 for the entire programme. The fee is only meant to contribute towards gathering sufficient resources needed for the programme. The programme is for 15- to 25-year-olds. Kagiso can be reached on 072 090 8600.
