Municipal stakeholder meeting at Madimbo

A member of the executive committee (EXCO) of Musina Municipal Council, Cllr Jeremia Khunwana, said members of the public’s participation in the affairs of government was important to speed up service delivery.

He was addressing traditional leaders, representatives of the community stakeholders and members of the public who attended the Musina Municipality’s IDP meeting at Madimbo last Thursday.

Khunwana said that the leadership of the municipality was aware of challenges in various wards, but for the community to be part of the decision-making processes to resolve those challenges was important. “We can all agree that the lives of our people are now better, but we can acknowledge the fact that much still needs to be done. The challenges in relation to shortage of houses, road networks that need to be improved, sanitation and water shortages in some areas are critical in our democracy.”

He thanked the traditional leaders for supporting the municipality. “We have a very good working relationship with our traditional leaders. This can be ascertained by the fact that we have traditional leaders who have seats on our Council. In fact, the biggest part of our municipality falls under traditional leaders who own that land. Ours is to develop and bring services to the people who are subjects of the traditional leaders.”

Ms Sarah Tshilongamulenzhe from Masisi said that she was happy to be part of the meeting that aimed to speed up service delivery in the municipality. “I encourage other members of the community to attend these meetings, so that they cannot be surprised when developmental projects are implemented in their areas. These meetings are very important because they give us an opportunity to air our views in relation to service delivery in our areas.”
