Accolades from Magangeni teacher

A teacher at Magangeni Primary School, Ms Mikhongelo Florence Precilla Bekwa, has proven that hard work and dedication pay dividends.

She won the excellence in primary school teaching award during the 20thannual national teaching awards held at Soshanguve East Secondary School last Saturday. She walked away with a vehicle (Renault Kwid), an award and a certificate. The awards were held under the theme: "Supporting teachers for the system on the rise".

She thanks God for making it possible for her to be where she is today. "He gave me a gift to nurture the young ones and the wisdom how to do it. It's an honour for me to be recognised for my hard work of 12 years, not only by my province but nationally. This propels me to continue doing excellent work to help the children of this country and beyond."

When asked about the recipe for success, she said: “Hard work, hard work and hard work. I am so dedicated to my work that I go beyond the call of duty to educate the children entrusted to me. I have extra classes to assist learners with difficulties. I employ creative strategies when teaching, so that my lessons are easily understood by learners and they can relate them to real-life situations. I am an innovative teacher, patient and passionate about education.”

She encouraged other teachers to use innovative strategies to educate learners. "Let us work to the best of our ability and grab this opportunity to change the world through education and make a difference in the lives of young people. Let us go the extra mile to educate learners, especially those with difficulties in learning.”

To those who want to be educators, "in education you are employed by your calling. Do not do it for the money, but for the fulfilment of your calling. Let your love for educating drive you," she said.
