VDM appoints new members to mayoral committee

The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Dowelani Nenguda, urged the newly appointed members of the mayoral committee to work hard towards the delivery of services to the people as soon as they assume their duties.

Nenguda was speaking on Monday in the mayor’s boardroom when welcoming the new members, who he said would play an important role in strengthening the existing committee members in enhancing the delivery of services to the people.

The new members were appointed during the special council meeting that was held online on Sunday, 31 May. “Working as a team collectively and focusing on service delivery will be among the top priorities that we want them to do. We are not purging those former members who were recalled, but we are collectively strengthening the leadership skills,” said Nenguda.

According to him, they have also appointed the new members in a balanced way, preserving gender equity, as many new members are women. He also said that the new members should gain confidence from the communities as they would be working towards service delivery with them.

The newly appointed members of the mayoral committee are: Cllr Josephine Mukwevho, who will head the department of finance and has replaced Cllr Ndivhuwo Radamba; Cllr Faith Chauke will head the department of Corporate Services and has replaced Cllr Joe Chavani; Cllr David Malada will head the department of Development and Planning and has replaced Cllr Robert Magada; Cllr Thina Mbedzi is still on Technical Services, Cllr Rose Mathukha is on Community Services, while other new members are Cllrs Cecelia Kwinda, Sylvia Machete, Phineas Themba and Ndwakhulu Kutama.

Cllr Faith Chauke told Limpopo Mirror that the district is the water services authority and they would prioritise the delivery of water to the communities seriously. Chauke said they would forge ahead towards the speedy appointment of borehole operators and some critical posts as soon as they assumed their duties.

Meanwhile, in a congratulating statement, the ANC Women’s League in the Vhembe region welcomed the decision of the council to introduce both young and experienced, capable women in the mayoral committee.

They said this was a sign that the executive mayor also had high regard for women, especially at a time when women are facing discrimination every day.
