Ramauba community drills own borehole

The Ramauba community members at Ha-Masia have drilled a borehole for to provide water to the people during and beyond the hard times of Covid-19.

They have installed reticulation pipes to more than 200 villagers, spreading more than two kilometres, without relying on the “Vhembe Technical Department to supply us with water brought by a water truck every fortnight to fight the scourge of the coronavirus pandemic," said Musanda Vho-David Murudi.

Murudi had inspired the initiative as he realised that the water that the municipality had been bringing fortnightly was not enough for use during the time of Covid-19. Villagers had made monetary contributions towards the drilling of the borehole, its installation, and the pipeline.

“We cannot always fold our arms and wait for everything from the government without taking initiative to do something that can make us a develop our communities during this critical time when our country is faced with an enormous crisis of water-delivery services,” Murudi said.

The project also brought major relief from the shortage of water in that residents now no longer need to buy water at R2 per 20-litre bottle from those who have boreholes.

Murudi had taken a resolution to sustain maintenance and delivery of the water system by establishing a monthly contribution to cater for unforeseen breakdown and an electricity supply service fee for each household.

Those interested in the good work of Ramauba community can contact Murudi on 082 724 5929 or 081 470 4723 (WhatsApp).
