Good start for United Brothers

Gwamasenga United Brothers commenced their league programme with a victory, when they beat Vyeboom Marikana 1-0 in their MMK Administrators Soccer League match at the Gwamasenga grounds on Sunday.

United Brothers took the game to the visitors from the start, but their original fighting spirit vanished with time. They could have scored an avalanche of goals within the first 30 minutes, but their strikers were unlucky.

Their left winger, Lindelani Mudau, missed a fortune in the eighth minute. Mulweli Malade initiated a solo move from the middle of the park before dishing a brilliant pass to Mudau, who shot wide with the keeper already beaten.

The absence of Aluwani Mundalamo and Rendani Sadiki in the Brothers’ defence was evident from the onset as the strikers for Marikana were doing as they pleased within the Brothers’ danger area. The goal that earned the hosts three points came in the 36th minute. Mulweli Malade received a beautiful pass from Lindelani Mudau and beat the keeper with a half volley.

United Brothers nearly increased the margin three minutes before half time. Their right winger, Livhuwani Mavhuyangwa, dispossessed a defender of Marikana and caused an upset by shooting aimlessly from close range. The ball missed the target by inches.

Marikana were all over United Brothers in the last 15 minutes of the game but could not hit the back of the net.
