Wounded Leopards ready to maul United

A wounded leopard is very dangerous, and this is exactly what the dedicated fans of Black Leopards believe. After a break of about 10 days, the Absa Premiership League teams will be in action again next Tuesday and Wednesday, December 11 and 12.

Black Leopards must come back with at least a draw from their away match against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg next Wednesday evening. The fact that Lidoda Duvha are currently lying at the bottom of the log is reason enough for them to see red lights.

The Thohoyandou outfit have only 9 points in their league account, one behind the other relegation candidates, Baroka FC, Amazulu FC, Chippa United and Maritzburg United.

Three of Leopards’ key players, Joseph Mhlongo, Tumelo Khutjang and Phathutshedzo Nange, will be available for selection. The trio missed last Saturday’s home match against Bidvest Wits because of injuries.

Leopards’ new head coach, Mr Dylan Kerr, will be on the team’s technical bench for the first time. The Englishman watched his team’s game against Bidvest Wits from the grandstand, pending the issuing of his work permit.    

Amazulu must beat Bloemfontein Celtic when they meet at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban to move out of the relegation zone. Celtic are one of the close league title contenders. Lamontville Golden Arrows will have to double their effort if they want to beat Wits in Johannesburg.

On Tuesday evening, Mamelodi Sundowns will host Baroka FC and Cape Town City will host Chippa United. It will be the first official match for Chippa United under the guidance of their new head coach, Mr Joel Masutha.  The other two matches are Free State Stars vs Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City vs Highlands Park
