TTM and Chippa in Nedbank clash

Soccer fanatics are waiting to see if Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) will continue from where they left off in their game against Polokwane City when they meet another Absa Premiership Division side, Chippa United, in their Nedbank last 16 match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth tomorrow afternoon.

TTM did the unexpected by beating Polokwane City 2-1 in their last-32 match of the same competition at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last month. The team’s caretaker coach, Mr Phuti Mohafe, was adamant that his side would show the Eastern Cape side no respect on the field, even though he regarded Chippa as their elder brothers by campaigning in the Premiership division.

He reiterated the fact that the players were in the best frame of mind after playing to a 4-4 draw against Ajax Cape in their league match in Cape Town last weekend. Chippa United are in top form of late, following the appointment of Mr Clinton Larsen as the team’s head coach last month.

TTM’ defenders, Lebohang Mabotja, Carlington Nyadombo, Tshepo Makgoga and Patrick Meso, will not find it easy to stop Chippa’s forwards, Mark Mayambela, Daine Klate and Lerato Manzini.

The other National First Division affiliate, Witbank Spurs, will host Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Puma Ruby Stadium in eMalaheni. Bloemfontein Celtic will play in front of their home crowd when they entertain Richards Bay FC at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The only surviving ABC Motsepe side in the competition, The Magic FC, will meet Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  The Magic’s way to the last-16 stage went via the NFD side, Maccabi FC, whom they beat 5-4. Jomo Cosmos will have a date with TS Galaxy at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa.

In the two matches that will be played this evening (Friday), Cape Umoya United will play against Mbombela United at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, while Cape Town City will host Highlands Park at the Cape Town Stadium.
