Punchline making their presence felt in Makhado league

Mutheiwana Advance Punchline have already made their presence felt in the Makhado Local Football Association league. The newcomers are the current log leaders with 10 points after four games.

In their opening match, Punchline walloped Bofulamato 3-1, followed by a convincing 2-1 victory over Mianzwi Hungry Lions, before they were held to a 1-all draw by Mashau Young Stars.

Last Sunday, in a thrilling match played at their home ground, they secured three points after defeating Davhana Balanganani 1-0.

Residents of Ha-Mutheiwana, with the help of former residents now based in Gauteng, revived the team once known as Tshimbupfe Advance Punchline towards the end of last year. During the festive season, the team, under the guidance of its technical director, Mr Musiiwa Mulaudzi, won five tournaments staged at Tshimbupfe village.

One of the officials of the team leading the Gauteng executive committee, former Limpopo Mirror reporter Nthambeleni Gabara, said that they were very impressed by the performance of the team. The fact that they had managed to collect 10 points and scored seven goals in four games was a clear indication that they had not joined the league to donate points, he said. “We value and appreciate the support of the villagers who always go out in their numbers to cheer the boys whenever they are playing at home. It will help us to achieve our objective of deepening social cohesion in the village.”

He added that the Gauteng leadership structure was committed to developing young boys in the village and had agreed to buy the boys high-quality kit. We also want to plead with businesspeople to support this team.”

Gabara’s sentiments were echoed by the team’s technical director, Musiwa Mulaudzi, who said that the residents were enjoying quality football in their village.  “We are happy that they are winning, but we want them to score more goals. In our team, we do not register players who smoke cigarettes or dagga or drink alcohol.”

Kaizer Nengovhela

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter.
