Still nursing an injury: TTM’s left back, Lebohang Mabotja.

Can the Royal Eagles fly over Vhadau?

While the rest of the GladAfrica Championship League teams will take a break, the only match that is scheduled for the weekend will be between Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Royal Eagles at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg tomorrow afternoon.

The fact that both sides must win the match at all cost is reason enough for the fans to expect a thriller. Should they manage to collect the maximum points at the expense of Royal Eagles tomorrow, TTM will move to the fourth position on the log with 15 points, four behind the pace setters, Uthongathi FC.

On the other hand, Royal Eagles must win the match to move out of the relegation quagmire. The Eagles are currently lying at the bottom of the log. They have won only one of the eight matches they have played to date and shared the spoils on three occasions. Their most recent result was a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Cape Umoya United at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town last Friday afternoon.

As for the Eagles’ killer striker, Edward Maqele, he will rub shoulders with his former teammates. Maqele was a TTM player until the end of last season. What was not clear at the time of our going to press was whether two of TTM’s regular players, Onyedikachi Ononogbu and Lebohang Mabotja, would be available for tomorrow’s match. Ononogbu and Mabotja sustained injuries in their game against JDR Stars at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday. Should Mabotja and Ononogbu not be available tomorrow, the likes of Lerato Mofokeng, Siyabonga Khumalo and Philip Ndlondlo will be expected to do the job.

During an interview with Mr Erol Akbay, the TTM’s head coach, he revealed that they were working on the strikers’ target shooting. That, according to him, was influenced by the fact that TTM had squandered numerous scoring opportunities in their game against JDR Stars.
