Ronewa brings back bronze medal from Italy

Ronewa Mudzanani (24), who joined the South African wheelchair-tennis team at the 2021 BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Alghero, Sardinia, Italy on 27 September, returned with a broad smile and a bronze medal to go with it.

Mudzanani, a resident at Vhurivhuri, was born with a disability that deprived him of the use of his legs. This, however, does not stop him from setting goals for himself. He is a workaholic and an indispensable stalwart on the sporting field. Mudzanani is living proof that people with disabilities are also capable of setting dreams and realising them, just like any other person.

He started playing wheelchair-tennis in Thohoyandou Technical High School. When the school was introduced to wheelchair-tennis in 2014 (when he was in Grade 10), his teacher encouraged him to take part in it. The SA coach for wheelchair-tennis was very impressed with his progress in the sport.

Mudzanani is hardworking by nature and strives to be the best in everything he does in life, always willing to learn new things as well as achieve greater heights. He even holds an N3 in mechanical engineering from the Tshwane South College.

He encourages people who live with disabilities to participate in different sports. “As people with disabilities, we are restricted a lot and undermined in many sporting codes, which gives us more reason to prove people wrong. I will continue to work hard, raise awareness for people living with disabilities and be a constant reminder to all of them that it is possible,” Mudzanani said.

Kaizer Nengovhela

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
