After releasing three albums in the past 12 years, a resident of Thengwe Tshilavulu village, Mr Elelwani Madima, and his group, UWS Holy Singers, have released their debut DVD.
According to Madima, it took them three months to record the DVD. It was finally released last Friday.
The DVD consists of 10 songs selected from their three albums. Madima added that the demand for the DVD was far higher than they could supply, despite the fact that it had only been available for seven days. While efforts are being made to distribute the DVD countrywide, the new release is only available at local music outlets.
Some of the songs which promise to be instant hits with fans include Thi di fhimi (from the album Yesu ndi wanga), Tuwa mbilu yanga (from Muzwali), U khou vhuya (from Muzwali) and Jerusalem (from Yesu ndi wanga).
The group was formed in 2000. When asked what has kept the group together for the past 12 years while other groups hardly survive for five years, Madima said that all the group members were Christians whose sole aim was to preach the gospel of God through their music.
All the songs have been composed by Madima, while a well-known local zwingondo music composer, Mr Peter “Tshigomboza” Tshirovhe, assisted the group with the editing and graphic design of the DVD.
The group comprises nine members, namely: Messrs Elelwani Madima, Lawrence Muvhango, MP Netshitavhadulu, Jeminah Mukosi, Florence Manyaga, Shonisani Madima, Tshilidzi Madima and Ndivhuwo Nemaheni. Madima stated that they would be performing live at various concerts during the coming months as part of their promotion of the DVD.
