Choral music lovers in Limpopo are in for a treat.

This follows the release of a major project by the well-known Limpopo choir, Thohoyandou God is Love Choir.

The album, Yesu Nkokodze, was released last week and was launched in style during a concert at the Nazarene Church in Thohoyandou. The concert, which saw three other choirs taking part as supporting acts, took place on Monday this week.

The 10-track album is the group's third album, following on the heels of the very successful albums Praise Him (1999) and Yesu Ndo U T ulutshelwa (2006).

The new album, which has hits like the title track Yesu Nkokodze, Tshifhambano and Praise the Lord, resuscitates the group after an absence of six years from the studio. It was recorded at Dojan Productions in Gauteng.

The group's founder and leader, Robert "Doctor Love” Khorommbi, said the group had faced many challenges over the years but soldiered on, despite the odds. "We started this group in 1999 to prove that good things can emerge from the rural areas. Here we are, without any resources; we are still alive and kicking 23 years on. We will continue giving our best to our loyal fans who have been supporting us over the years," he said.

He said the album was a tribute to the late undertaker John Sigidi, who had sponsored the recording of the album but passed on before it could be released. "Sigidi was like a father to us. He promised to assist us in taking our music to greater heights and his dream never materialised as he died before he could reap the fruits of his labour," said Khorommbi.

He said they were self-marketing the album, with a view to raising funds to shoot a DVD. "We need at least R15 000 for this project and we have a lot of pressure from our fans, who would like to see it on DVD," added Khorommbi.

Wilfred Nekhavhambe, a well-known Limpopo choral music conductor, hailed the album. "The music is good and has all the ingredients to take the group very far," said Nekhavhambe.

Those wishing to have copies of the new album can do so by contacting the founder, Robert Khorommbi, at 082 976 7705.
