During the funeral of the late composer and singer, Tshivhangwaho Raedani, in March, the other members of the award-winning Tshivenda traditional music band, Adziambei band, promised mourners that the band would not dissolve.

They kept their promise and last month they amazed the local music fraternity with a new CD, Mutula Gole. It is very popular and a hot item at local music outlets.

The band has four members: group leader Elias Sirwali on lead guitar, composer and singer Temudzani Masindi, Samuel Mabuda composer and singer and singer Johannes Kwinda. The new CD was recorded at Ngoma dza Tshitomboni studios in Thohoyandou and produced by Mulalo Mukwevho.

According to group leader Elias “Maele” Sirwali, the CD has ten songs, all dedicated to the late Tshivhangwaho Raedani. “It is true ro tangulwa (meaning we lost a member), because a founder-member of the band is no more and we paid tribute to him through the song Thangule. We promised people that the band would continue singing as usual and we kept the promise,” said Sirwali.

Sirwali said they named the new CD Mutula Gole, a traditional drum of the forefathers, which if it was sounded, the rain came.

Adziambei band was formed in 1982 in Guyuni village outside Mutale and made headlines when they won the award for the song of the year, Nwana o ngala ngala, during the 2012 Tshima awards.
