At the age of 43, Eddy Masakona has achieved more things than some people who have lived for 100 years.
Despite the fact that he does not have a distinctive posture, Masakona is a true reflection that a hardworking person can achieve his goals simultaneously. Masakona, who hails from Nzhelele Ha-Rabali, is a five-in-one – he is a performing artist, a full-time pastor, a radio presenter, a counsellor and a family man. How does this man alternate between all these roles without compromising any of the others? “I make sure that I spend every minute effectively, and I don’t have any time to waste. I work hard in everything I do to make sure that, at the end of the day, I get the desired results.”
Nicknamed Tshikandeledzi by radio lovers, Masakona presents Mulisa wa ndele, a programme which airs every Sunday between 06:00 and 09:00 on Musina FM. “The programme tackles issues about the Christian religion and how people can overcome the influences from Satan. I also invite other pastors who come and preach. I also play anointing gospel music and interview gospel artists in order to promote their music. Each time I open the telephone lines, people call in large numbers to show that they are interested in my show.”
After the programme every Sunday, Masakona travels to Folovhodwe village where he is a full-time pastor for the Word of Power Worship Centre. He claims his church is overcrowded every Sunday because he performs miracles in the powerful name of Jesus. “I also counsel church members and community members with social problems.” As a performing artist, Masakona has seven successful albums to his name. “I played keyboards for Paul Mulaudzi for 20 years before I decided to go solo. My first album, Vhonani Murena Yesu, was released in 2000. It was followed by Mupfumi Mushai, which I did with the Macro Boys two years later. I then recorded Farelela, Africa, Vho ita midzimu yavho, Ndi a mu funa Yesu and the latest album, Ndi a swa, which was released last year.”
As a family man, Masakona says he draws inspiration from his wife, Reginah, and his children, who keep on supporting him in whatever he does.
