Being born in a rural village does not mean one cannot realize a dream.
A rural-based manyalo disco music artist of wedding and encouragement songs, Ms Eunice “Enika” Rakhadani of Mafukani-Thengwe outside Mutale, said through her songs she wanted people to know more about life.
Rakhadani (37), the mother of four boys, says her first CD, Vhusiwana (Poverty), was released in October, 2013 and is very popular at stokvels, parties and even weddings. “I developed a life of singing, after I was working hard as a security guard based in Gauteng 2010. I bought speakers and amps and started singing. I was encouraged by my husband, who saw me complaining about working as a security guard because the job was dangerous sometimes,” said Rakhadani.
The CD, Vhusiwana has six tracks, viz. Khotsimunene, Mashaka, Vhamusanda, Khaladzi, Khonani and Khotsi a vhana. “Through the song Vhamusanda, I want to send a message to the leader of Mafukani village, Chief Nndileni Nemafukani, to help resolve the problems of people in the village who are being poisoned. I want people who are involved to stop such practices,” adds Rakhadani.
“Seeing that my music was loved by many people, in February I released another CD, Vhutshilo, which literally means ‘Life’. This CD also consists of six tracks, such as Zwavhuhadzi, Vhana vha mme anga and Ndi a malwa.”
The song Zwavhuhadzi, tells how she found herself in a bad situation when her former husband passed away and she was forced by relatives to marry the younger brother of her husband.
“I don’t want to be married to my husband’s younger brother. I want to stay alone and build my house to stay with my children. I want people to understand that life is difficult and relatives can sometimes force you to do things you don’t like,” Rakhadani says.
The CDs were recorded and produced at Superlight Studios in Ha-Budeli village outside Thohoyandou.
For live performances and bookings, Rakhadani can be phoned at 078 5313 908.
