An 18-year-old journalism student from Rosebank College, Ms Unarine Sinwamali, was crowned the new Miss Makhado two weeks ago. The first princess is Ms Hazel Siwadawada (16) and Ms Mpho Maemu (21) was crowned as the second princess. The Ms Personality title went to Ms Khuliso Mulaudzi (19).

The Miss Makhado beauty pageant was organised by Moe’s Beauty and Promotions agency (MBP) and was held at the Makhado show grounds late last year (December 20). The organisers received a large number of entries and the 15 finalists had to pass a series of rehearsals.

The agency's founder and competition organiser, Ms Zwonaka Miranda Malaka, said despite the entertainment that came with the competition, they were hoping to teach young women in the region the purpose of setting and achieving goals in life.

"This competition is going to be an annual event and will continue to provide a modelling opportunity to uncover local talent," said Ms Malaka.

Miss Makhado 2014/2015, Ms Sinwamali, went home with a beauty hamper, a one year MBP (Moe’s Beauty and Promotions) contract, a modelling photoshoot opportunity, R2 000 in cash, J. Badane Design vouchers and Zukwa clothing vouchers.

The first princess, Ms Siwadawada, went home with a Beauty Hamper, MBP one-year contract, a photoshoot opportunity and R1 000 in cash, whilst the second princess, Ms Maemu, received a beauty hamper, MBP one-year contract, a photoshoot opportunity and R500 in cash.

Ms Sinwamali, who hails from Vleifontein, said she would donate R500 of her prize money to the charity of her choice. “I’ve enjoyed every moment of the competition, despite all the challenges that came with it,” she said.

She said she would spend this year educating young people of her age about the importance of embracing their beauty. She is also going to be interviewed by the soon-to-be-launched TV station in the province, Limpopo TV.

The agency will enter Ms Sinwamali for this year's Miss Commonwealth competition and she will also be entered for this year's Miss Teen SA.
