The 22-member Gospel of Mark Church choir at Tsianda Mashamba is fast becoming one of the finest gospel groups to have come out of the Vhembe region.
Their traditional Zionist melodies, which are spiced with a funky youthful touch, soothe the soul and make one want to listen for more.
Group leader Lufuno Manavhela said the group was formed last year. “We are determined to make it in the music industry. We have already composed many beautiful songs which are ready to be recorded. Our main worry is that we do not have a sponsor; as you can see, we do not have even a uniform.”
He added that they knew that God had a plan for them and that the time would come “when we will be on top there, shining and ministering through music. What we are appealing for is assistance that we can record our music.”
Manavhela said that their choir was formed as a response to the spiraling crime wave in the area. “We sat down and thought that by singing we could attract many youths to the church. The trick is working as we have managed to draw many to the church. We know music is power and we are going to change the community, so watch this space,” he said.
Those willing to assist the group can phone Manavhela on 071 166 2113.
