The first thing that strikes every music lover about this rapper is his name and how it is spelled – pH.

A 21-year-old singer, who was born Mpho Netshilunzhi, says that he got the nickname “pro-hustler” from his schoolmates, who saw that he was always trying to “make things happen” as an underground rapper.

“I had to shorten the pro-hustler name to pH,” he said. “And whenever I hear a voice say pH, I feel a lot of energy and enthusiasm in me. I am born to work hard and achieve my heart's desires.”

He maintains that he started writing his verses and songs when he was only 16. It was also during that stage of his life when he released his single, entitled Tshedza. He was striving for both quality and recognition as he belted out his strong lyrics.

He is a resident of Khakhu village, near Siloam. Like any other child, pH grew up without realising he was talented; however, he always loved singing. He attended Tshikovhani Primary School, where he passed his Grade 7. He completed his Grade 12 at Thengwe High school and is now furthering his studies through Unisa.

With Tshedza, he scored a major hit which set him on the VenRap platform, where he ended up working with different artists from different record labels. “My musical journey was not easy or smooth,” he said. “I faced many rejections from different record labels, until I met Mpfariseni Goodman Phalanndwa, better known as Mosbee. He recognised my talent. He said there was a need to show this talent to the world out there.”

He thanked all people who stood by his side when the road to success was tough. “I am what I am today because of the support I get from the rest of Team Khachamedza (members from his studio); I am part of Team Khachamedza,” he said.

He has just released his full-lengh album, Lessons, recorded at Mosbee Records. “I’m sure this album will be rocking the whole of Venda before the end of this month,” he said.
