A popular Phalaphala FM presenter, Rotenda Mangoma, recently joined the SABC2 current affairs programme Zwa Maramani.

Mangoma is the presenter of the Phalaphala FM programme Tshiko, a talk show programme that is on air midweek from 12:00 to 15:00.

The much-loved presenter joined the SABC in 2008 as a producer and script writer for educational programmes and she later presented late-night and weekend shows for the station. She would stand in for Tshiko programmes from time to time until the station felt she could hold her own. She started presenting Tshiko in April 2012 and has never looked back.

For television, she now hosts Zwa Maramani and her first show was on Wednesday, 6 April. Her first show profiled the Phalaphala FM station’s back-to-school shoes campaign..

According to the station, she will continue to present Tshiko from Auckland Park. The station feels that this is a perfect opportunity "to strengthen the transversal partnership with SABC 2, following the sound relationship it has with Muvhango soapy."

Rotenda was born at Miluwani and matriculated at Khwevha Commercial School. She completed a BA (Hons) in Development Studies with the University of Venda and proceeded to the University of Applied Sciences in Freiburg (Germany) to further her research, which included field work. “Development studies comes in handy in my day-to-day radio experience since South Africa is a developmental state. This ultimately empowers listeners," she added.

Having started her radio career at Univen Community Radio as a community diary reader, Rotenda went on to become a force to be reckoned with behind the microphone, hosting a variety of programmes from Hip Hop Show to the station’s flagship 3-6 afternoon drive, earning herself the name Urban Rose.

Through her programme she enjoys what she terms “shaping people’s day-to-day debates,” tackling everything from politics to economics, labour, education, development and social lifestyle.
