Years of hard work and dedication have finally paid off for a resident of Malamulele Merwe A, Aubrey Khosa. The 35-year old Khosa recently released a debut gospel choral album, Tilweni.

According to him, his interest in music started when he became an active member of the Merwe Primary School choir in 1989. His teachers at Shitlangoma High School also remember the contribution he made to the school choir during his stay as a pupil in the nineties. After passing Grade 12, Khosa went to Lulekani Township in Phalaborwa, where he stayed for some years with his uncle, Mr HJ Khosa, a well-known choral music composer.

After producing numerous high-profile music artists, Khosa, a music lecturer at the University of Venda since 2011, felt that it was time for him to go to the recording studio as well. He then assembled a number of artists and named the group Xilombe Choral Ensemble, before going to MB Records in Thohoyandou in April this year.

It was released in June. The album comprises nine songs. Some of favourites include God bless Africa, Vito leri tsakisaka, tlangela Yehova and the title track, Tilweni. Khosa said that the album is available on CD at local music outlets and that  the demand for the album is at present higher than he can supply.

He further stated that his group will be performing at various concerts including the annual Classical Evening Event that will be staged at the Shingwedzi Multi-Purpose Centre on Friday, September 2. For live performance bookings, Khosa can be contacted on 072 182 1424 or [email protected].
