Started by granny Sophie Mavhetha in 2009, Renda Yehova Gospel Choir at Maniini outside Thohoyandou had a humble beginning with only six members.

Today, that choir has grown to be a force to be reckoned with and boasts more than 40 members. The members are well loved and focus on entertaining during parties and other events and also comforts during funerals.

Aaron Kgatla, one of the group's leaders, said they had composed songs over the years that they performed at community events as they were a community choir and performed free of charge most of the time. "We have perfected our act and we are ready to conquer the world. We have material ready to be recorded and we have made arrangements to record our debut album in Gauteng.”

According to him, their main challenge is finance as they need transport, accommodation, the booking of the studio and also to market their product. “We need community support in this respect. We are your children and we will accept any form of help that would see us realize our dream of having an album before the end of the year," he said.

Mr Phillip Mbedzi, another of the founder members of the choir, said they had paid their dues locally and they were ready to spread their wings. "We have performed in many parts of the country and wherever we performed, we left fans asking for more. Our mission from now on is to be recognized internationally in three years' time," he said.

Choir conductor Lindelani Mavhetha said they were ready. "We have done our homework and all we need now is support from the community which we supported for many years," he said.
