Mulingoni Mudau makes comeback with second album

After vanishing from the music scene about 11 years ago, a resident of Mangondi village, Mr Mulingoni Mudau, has made a comeback with his second gospel album.

His debut album, Zwo naka, was released way back in 2006. It comprised eight songs and the tracks U vhusa Vhone, Ndi nnyi khonani and the title song, Zwo naka, made the album an instant hit with the fans.

Born at Mangondi village 33 years ago, Mudau’s music talent was uncovered when he was 10 years old. At that stage, he was an active member of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) choir. After several years, Mudau joined the Assemblies of God Church, where he became a leader of the church band. Mudau, who spends much of his time behind the steering wheel as a taxi driver, is currently a leader of the Agapé Fire Ministries band.

Although his debut album performed well on the market, Mudau told himself not to go to the recording studio anymore. According to him, the decision was influenced by the rate of music piracy in the Vhembe region, where CDs were selling for as little as R5 at the time. He revealed that he went to the studio again, however, after a meeting with Dr Maluleke, who pledged to finance the recording of the second album.

The new release, Vho ri lwela Yehova, was recorded at the Shigombe Studio in Giyani towards the end of last year. It was played for the first time at local radio stations three weeks ago and comprises 10 tracks. The new release promises to beat the debut album by far as  where sales are concerned. Some of the songs on the new album are: O shululwa malofha, You are the holy God, Ndi ya U funa and Hu vhusa Vhone.

“As a taxi driver, I don’t have much time to market my music,” said Mudau. He said that his dream was to own a band that was known internationally. For live-performance bookings, he can be phoned at 076 740 0753.
