Chief uses book as platform to address social ills

With the invention of the many different social media platforms, one of the Vhembe traditional leaders has decided to use them to write whatever comes to mind and to share this with the public. Businessman and traditional leader Alunangwi Edward Tshivhase is not just an ordinary leader, but a leader with many skills, one of which is writing.

At the age of 63, Tshivhase, a retired school principal and writer, has contributed stories to magazines such as Wamba and Mvelaphanda. Over the years, he has written a lot but has not published a book.

As wine mellows with age, he has come out smoking and has published his first short-story book, Nga Ri Thetshelese. Judging by the reception the book has received since it was launched, Tshivhase has the makings of a household name.

The book is about life experiences and observations over the years. “After much pursuance, I succumbed to pressure, but the pressure was worth it as my first book is out now. The book was inspired by what I observed and experienced in daily life.”

He urged all readers, especially the youth, to read carefully as the contents of the book “are very important and can help us immensely in our day-to-day lives.”

When asked why he had come out with such a book, Tshivhase said that there are many platforms to address issues, but he had found that writing was the best platform to express his views.

The 77-page book is now available locally at Mbuye and Mbeu Christian Bookshop. For more information regarding the book, phone him at 071 281 3395.
