Mazwale celebrates awards

Local music lovers celebrated the achievements of Tshanduko Maano, better known as Mazwale, during a concert at the Masana Resort a fortnight ago.

The talented musician was the winner of the best Tshivenda award during the 2016/7 South African Traditional Awards (Satma) ceremony. She also won a Tshivenda Music Awards (Thima).

During the event at the Masana Resort, she also launched her new album, Usivhone bere ukhanya.

Mazwale was born at Lwamondo-Mapate and started singing as a little girl in the primary school choir. She later became the lead vocalist in the local church.

Her first album, Ndinne uno, was released in 2014, with the hit praise song Ndwinwana wanga and the title track, Ndinne uno popular among the fans. In 2015 she released her second album, Usapfa hutunya mavhudzi.

She felt, however, that her talent was not being recognized. “I have been wandering around and saw many things in life, but there was one thing that I was missing in life, and that was God. Everything has changed, and my life has to bear testimony that I have changed. That is where the new album came into being,” Mazwale said.

She encourages young people to realize the importance of education and to put their education first. She is currently in her second year at Damelin College, studying for a for a diploma in sound engineering.

She thanks her supporters who voted for her and dedicated her award to these fans. According to her manager, Ms Merriam Thinadzanga the main aim of the new album was not to make a profit, but “to celebrate our Vhembe region and show our talent.”

Some of the artists who performed during the event include Jah Lady, Cornerstone, Jaycon, Tshigomboza, Frezzy, Cashflow, Miskay, Prifix and Shufflers Ragimana.
