The 25-year-old Khuthadzo Tshisudi, better known as Meskay, released his long-awaited debut album, Darkest before dawn, earlier this month.

Meskay hails from Vleifontein but is currently residing in Pretoria. He said the reason behind the title of the album, Darkest before dawn, was to inspire all the people who had already given up in life and were hoping that things would be better because of the struggle that they had encountered. “The phrase Darkest before dawn simply means there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

The album has 19 tracks, which include songs such as Ndi wa munna , Long distance, It wasn't easy, Dakalo, Fulufhelo and Dzovhuyesa murahu.

He said with the album he wanted to tackle burning issues on life, death, poverty, abortion, perseverance and love. “Basically, the album is about life in general,” he said.

Meskay collaborated with well-known artists from around Venda, such as Makhadzi, Prifix, Blessa, Candy and Mizo Phyll in recording the album.

The album was recorded at Mosbee Records, New found records and Toofab. Music lovers interested in the album can find the information on Facebook at Meskay Mr-Hooks or call Tshilidzi Mavhungu on 071 606 2208.
