New CD for Khathu Mutswu

Where in the country can one find an artist who is not a Rastaman, but his music is reggae?

While many people think that one should be Rastafarian to sing and produce reggae music, Khathu Mutswu (53) from Mbaleni outside Thohoyandou is doing things differently.

Mutswu, with his backing vocalist Vharendi, released his third album in November. Muthu o shanduka has four tracks, Nkhetheni, Muthu o shanduka, Mitodzi yashu and Be obedient.

He said that his voice fitted well into the reggae rhythm.

The title track, Muthu o shanduka, means that “a person has changed.”

According to Mutswu, people change through life and he is worried that a lot of children in the village of Mbaleni are abusing alcohol and drugs. "I want people to gather and discuss these burning issues, so that they can stop," he said.

All songs were composed and arranged by Khathu Mutswu and recorded at Vharendi Studio in Makwarela Extension 4. For bookings, call Mutswu on 072 1510 548.
