Carrie ready to conquer entertainment industry

Carrie Netshifhire, a young model born and raised in Tshikunda village, is eager to conquer the entertainment industry.

The 21-year-old has joined a local radio station, Kingdom FM, and presents the Sunday afternoon show. She is not just a model but also the power behind the Thohoyandou Fashion Week. “This happens when I'm not playing in front of the camera," she said.

She said her career took an upward turn when she was scouted by Kim Myers in 2016 for the Applause Rising Talent Showcase that takes place annually in Florida, USA. Although she could not attend after being denied a visa three times, she remains courageous and is not giving up on her dreams to become an international model.

"I have been on television screens for commercial advertisements for Nissan and Mug and Bean. I will also be using my voice to break the boundaries behind the microphone for Kingdom FM," she said.

She believes that for as long as she is still alive, she will use her talent to touch lives and empower others. "Being from a village doesn’t mean one deserves to remain in the village. 'Crown yourself; the greatest emperors crown themselves' are the words that constantly remind me that nothing will be served on a silver platter, but I have to get up and gracefully take charge of what I want to achieve - not only in the industry but in life as a whole," she said.

Mbulaheni Ridovhona

The 22-year-old Mbulaheni (Gary) Ridovhona has been passionate about journalism to the extent that he would buy himself a copy of weekly Univen students' newsletter, Our Voice. After reading, he would write stories about his rural village, Mamvuka, and submit them to the very newsletter for publication. His deep-rooted love for words and writing saw him register for a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies at the University of Venda, and joined the Limpopo Mirror team in February 2016 as a journalism intern.
