Newie nominated for Ingoma awards

­Local gospel sensation Newie's talent has been recognized as she has been nominated in the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma) awards to be held on 25 August at the Lyric Theatre Gold Reef City.

She has been nominated in four categories, and three are open for the public to vote and one is for the judges to decide. The categories are Best worship album, Best live recorded CD, Best female artist and Best songwriter (not for public voting).

She said she felt delighted about the nominations. "Being nominated in the awards makes me feel honoured and recognised, and that means the God I talk about will also be recognised. I honestly feel honoured," she added.

"To my fans and supporters, these categories belong to you. You decide whether we win them or not, but with the support I saw from you so far, I am confident that we are bringing it home. Let's keep voting. I really appreciate the support I'm getting from all of you," she concluded.

From to their website, the overall objective of the Ingoma awards is to encourage all upcoming and independent artists to go beyond the call of duty and produce music that meets the highest standard and to also recognize their hard work.

Mbulaheni Ridovhona

The 22-year-old Mbulaheni (Gary) Ridovhona has been passionate about journalism to the extent that he would buy himself a copy of weekly Univen students' newsletter, Our Voice. After reading, he would write stories about his rural village, Mamvuka, and submit them to the very newsletter for publication. His deep-rooted love for words and writing saw him register for a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies at the University of Venda, and joined the Limpopo Mirror team in February 2016 as a journalism intern.
