Two young sisters nominated for Ingoma awards

Two young sisters, artists from Dopeni known as Masana and Phathu, have been nominated in the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (INGOMA) for 2018.

The two have been nominated for the Best Gospel Album and Best Collaboration awards. The two young sisters, Masana (15) and Phathutshedzo Siwadawada (11) received a nomination for their album, Rialivhuwa.

The awards were started in 2013 by people who were actively involved in the gospel music industry after seeing a gap. The awards are positioned to serve as the face and voice of the upcoming and independent gospel/Christian music community. The awards bring all races and ethnic groups together through the celebration of South Africa's diverse gospel music.

The youngsters grew up listening to celebrated musicians such as Thili Maumela, Lufuno Dagada and Benjamin Dube, and said that they drew inspiration from these artists.

The songs on their album were composed by Masana in Tshivenda, Sepedi, and English.

Masana said that they would love to perform live, but that they did not have any musical instruments of their own. They want to portray the love of God through their music, because the love of God makes them complete. It worries them to see young people consuming liquor and using drugs.

According to them, people might have everything they could wish for in life, but without God, they would never enjoy life to the fullest. Their album is a continuation of this message. 

“I feel so blessed and excited to be nominated. It is a sign that great things are still coming and that God is doing something so amazing through my music,” said Masana.

She continued that Rialivhuwa focused on God's love and eternal presence. "The songs on the album simply tell God who He is in our lives, saying 'Indeed, truly, surely, you are the Lord'.
