No-name streets provide a serious problem to residents

Letters  Date: 08 January 2015

While Mayor David Mutavathsindi of Makhado earlier announced his serious intention to use several hundreds of thousands of rands of the local taxpayers’ money to change street names in Louis Trichardt, the entire Tshikota and most of the village in the Makhado Municipality are as yet without a single street name sign.

This poses the obvious question: Wouldn’t it be more positive, helpful and uplifting for our people to bless Tshikota and other villages’ residents with a helpful pride of identity by also displaying their street names?

The no-name streets in Tshikota make it difficult for people to direct others to find and to visit their homes, their businesses, their school and their churches. The no-name streets also make it difficult for the municipality to be directed to the dire need for upkeep and even the building of neglected streets in Tshikota.

- Francis van der Merwe, Louis Trichardt
