The police are still no closer to finding out who the two men were that discarred old mortar shells in Musina last week.
One of these shells exploded a man’s hands when he tried to open it, killing him instantly. He apparently wanted to sell it for scrap metal.
After the explosion, police were quick to cordon off the area. By Wednesday morning, the scene was finally cleared. The remaining mortar shells were destroyed by the police.
At the time, provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Ronel Otto said the man and his friend had found the bomb along the road near a local scrap-metal dealership.
Otto said the man could only be identified as a 25-year-old male from Zimbabwe. At the time of going to press, police were still trying to locate his family.
