Ward 7 residents unhappy about service delivery

News  Date: 09 January 2004

NTHABALALA – The civic chairperson of Nthabalala Village, Mr Piet Mavhungu Ramaligela, is complaining about shabby jobs on RDP houses done by contractors appointed by the Makhado Municipality, and who disappeared without a trace before completing their projects at the village.

During an interview with Mirror, Ramaligela said that in 2001, the building of RDP houses was awarded to needy beneficiaries at Ha-Mpofu and out of that number 24 are uncompleted, while the remaining 26 they do not have windows. He added that the contractors have disappeared without a trace.

He said community members are complaining as some of the houses are being damaged by the wind and the municipality is showing no sign to get another contractor to complete the project. Ramaligela said that in 2002, 100 more RDP houses were awarded to needy beneficiaries at Masetha, Manyima, Ramaru, Mphuphuledzhi and Maduwa 20. Yet there is no progress and the houses are still uncompleted.

“In realising that the Sidimela developers are failing to complete the projects, the Municipality sent another developer to complete 80 units, but the developer haven’t yet started with the project” he said. He further added that the Department of Local Government and Housing awarded 80 more RDP houses to Maila, Nthabalala Thondoni, Posa ito, Magoba, Mufunzi, Tshigungundu and Mphadzha villages in 2002, but the contractor build the houses without the solid base on which the building is built up and when it rains the houses are shifting putting the lives of beneficiaries in danger.

“I informed the Department of Local Government and Housing in advance and they promised that they would visit the area just to see shabby jobs done by the developer, but hey never came,” he grumbled. He said when the Makhado Municipality awarded 1200 electricity connections to Nthabalala and Maduwa villages in 2002, holes were dug but poles are not enough, adding that the community want the Municipality to attend the matter urgently.

“The Makhado Municipality is aware of our problems and in all our meetings with them they gave us empty promises that is why there is no process. We are not exposing them, but we want people to know that there is no service delivery in Ward 7 under Cllr Samuel Mafela.
