New year sees 217 new babies

MAKHADO – The Department of Health and Welfare in Limpopo Province confirmed that 217 babies were born in various hospitals on New Year’s Day.

According to the departmental spokesperson, Phuthi Seloba, 100 girls and 117 boys were born. On Christmas Day, 119 babies were born, 62 of those being boys. The hospitals that registered the most newborns are Tintswalo and Mankweng Hospitals with 19, followed by Helena Frans, with 11.

In the Mopane district, Khensani Hospital registered four, while Tshilidzini in the Vhembe district registered eight. Six babies were born at Malamulele, Siloam and Donald Fraser Hospitals respectively. Elim, Louis Trichardt and Musina each registered one baby.

Seloba added that his department donated toys, bags with milk, soup and other gifts to the families blessed with the new babies.
