News  Date: 20 December 2002

The MEC for Agriculture in the province, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, in co-operation with Progress Milling have launched the new subsidised maize meal as part of the government's poverty alleviation programme.

The function was held during the week at Indermark in the Bochum area.

According to Phuti Seloba, the spokesperson for Agriculture, the launching which coincided with International Human Rights day will ensure that poor communities will make some reasonable savings, which will in turn enable them to buy certain additional items for the festive season.

"The launch will mark the distribution of 25 000 bags of 12.5 kg for a controlled price of just R25 a bag.

"This will help to alleviate the plight of the province's poorest people. This unique brand which will be launched is solely directed to reach the poor and as such will be distributed through selected outlets," said Seloba.

The launch was conducted by the MEC for Agriculture, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi who was accompanied by the Health and Welfare MEC, Sello Moloto.
